Scanning in your old photos (or any prints, maps, ticket stubs, newspaper clipping etc) is a great way to add more detail to your photobook and when scanned correctly can have stunning results. 

 For the best results try these tips:

1. Check your photos for any smudges or dirt. 
   Carefully wipe clean the photo with a softlint-free cleaning cloth. Avoid ny cleaning products or chemicals to keep the photo in the best possible condition.
2. Don't forget to check your scanner glass too. 
   Any smudges, dust or hair on the scanner will appear in your scanned image. Follow your scanner's cleaning guide to ensure you can get the best results.
    
3. Set your scanning setting to colour.
   Even if your photo is black & white. This will give you more control over the final colour of your printed photo as you can finely adjust the colour and tone inside our software.
    
4. Set the scan resolution
   To ensure you have adequate image data for a high quality print set the scanning resolution to a minimum of 300 dpi or the 'Print Quality' setting. A good rule of thumb is to set it to 600dpi, this way you'll have enough resolution for what ever size you place it on the page.
    
5. Crop the scan preview
   To save on excess filesize and optimize procesing time use the crop tool on the scanner's preview image. This will only scan the selected section reducing the time take to scan and to use your photos.
    
6. Avoid using the scanner's image correction settings.
   For better results scan the image as the original photo appears and use a dedicated image editing program (such as Adobe Photoshop) or our built-in image editor to make these corrections.
    
7. Scan your photo
   Select 'Jpeg' as the image format the scan will be saved as, choose the location and click on scan.
    
8. Editing your scanned image
   When placing the image into your photobook layout you can either double click the placed image or select it and click the 'Edit' button in the 'Tool' pallete to open the image editor. Use the image sharpening to bring image detail back to the image, despekle or remove noice to clean up dust or speckles on the print. Colour toning effect can convert the image to black & white or spepia tones, while the autocorrects can help restore image contrast.
